“Instead of asking “What’s my Facebook strategy?”, start with “What are my goals for using social media?” If you start with your goals, and then spend the time understanding how your goals fit into the different social media sites and communities, then that gives you a solid grounding on how to create an overall social media strategy that allows you to participate in each community appropriately. The most important best practice is to listen first, then talk. Understand how each community works and then step into the community in a way that fits you and the community.
