Ghana? Yes, I’m going to Ghana. Here’s why.

You may have heard I’m going to Ghana in November. Here’s why.

As you may know, I’ve done a fair amount of travel throughout my life. I’ve met many great people, created many fantastic experiences, taken thousands of pictures, and learned a couple things about me and the world. Some of it’s been easy, a lot of it’s been hard, but it’s helped make me who I am.

And it’s led me to Ghana, traveling with Sloane Berrent to meet my soon-to-be-friends Drew Meyers and Dan in Ghana for a two-week trip (Nov 8 to 21) to lead a few malaria net drops with local charities and NGOs, visit tech companies around Accra, visit the microfinance institution Lumana Credit and a few cooperatives, and explore a bit of the country as best we can.

Why?

Sloane and I talk a lot about how we want to contribute to the world, and while we each have our own ways, we share a deep experience and passion for using personal experiences, thoughtful insights, and powerful images to tell stories about matters of the world. Less investigative journalist, more inquisitive, thoughtful, respectful “traveler with a soul”. Last fall Sloane and her friend Doug raised nearly $20,000 for malaria nets for Ghana through their Cause It’s My Birthday series of birthday parties across the United States. And with Drew and Dan on their way there, the opportunity to visit Ghana and see a bit of the impact of the Cause It’s My Birthday series was simply too great to pass up.

Every day, we’re all asked to donate money, time and attention for causes, and we’re inundated with information about why we should donate. We’re going to take it a step further and show you why your donations matter.

How can you help us make the most of our time in Ghana?

  • Do you know amazing people in Ghana we should connect with? If so, we’d love an introduction.
  • Do you know a technology company based in Accra? We’re going to visit a few technology companies in Accra and always looking for more opportunities to connect.
  • Is there something we simply have to do in Ghana? Or be prepared for? Or should absolutely know before we go? Tell us.

It’ll be an experience, that’s for sure. Looking forward to sharing it with you when we get back.
