My cities in 2008, originally inspired by Kottke, continuing from 2006 and 2007. I hadn’t planned on coming close to 2007′s total, but sometimes things don’t go according to plan. 72 different cities in 2008, compared to 76 in 2007: but who’s counting?

Take a look, and answer two questions:
1) Where did you go in 2008? (comment, and link to Your Cities in 2008, please!)
2) What cities should be on my 2009 list? (any thoughts as I plan my travels?)

Quehanna Wild Area is a city?

  • http://www.unstructuredventures.com/uv Taylor Davidson

Ok, so it's not a city; but it is a place I spent the night… multiple nights in fact, roped into some crazy winter camping trip… who convinced me to do that? :)

  • Jim Lutz

I don't know, but that does sound crazy. Who would want to spend the night in the middle of the woods in Norther PA in the middle of winter. I wouldn't take their advice anymore!

Honestly, that is one of my all-time favorite trips. Come to think of it, only a couple of my trips are not in my all-time fav's.

My list is only 14 so far for 08. I need to put together a year by year list.

I don't do a good enough job keeping track of the specific cities I've visited. The best I've got is US states and countries. Off the top of my head some of the most memorable were Delhi, Bangalore, Agra, a number of cities across Connecticut, Massachusetts, California, and Texas…

Where should you go in 2009?

I always recommend my favorite city in the world, Istanbul. The Philippines is really an adventure especially outside of Manila. In the States, Austin and Seattle pop to mind for their blend of nature, uniqueness, and proximity to other interesting cities!

Start tracking now for next year!

Istanbul is on the list, unsure if it will happen this year. Austin will be in March; I'd be surprised if I didn't go to Seattle at some point this year. Ah, too many ideas…

1.) you are a crazy man
2.) West Africa, definitely. otherwise, i am partial to and could happily vicariously visit chicago, seattle, or yellowstone. or the appalachian trail. alaska. montreal. vancouver. homey truckee.

  • ericajoh

Wow, that's a lot of destinations. My list for 2008 only include Swedish cities – the first year since high school I haven't traveled abroad at all. But perhaps I needed the break.

As for your 2009 list, just go to the places you've always wanted to see but never have gotten around to visiting.

  • http://www.alcatrazmedia.com Ryan

Wow, that is quite a list. I am going to track 2009, thank you for the inspiration. I must work at going new/better places or my list is going to be littered with places I have been a lot.

Johannesburg, Dubai, Riyadh, perhaps a trip back to Russia? Some riskier adventures. Buenos Aires, Patagonia and drive over the mountains to Chile. China?! Then soon, once the ship is complete. Mars.

  • http://www.unstructuredventures.com/uv Taylor Davidson

I know you travel a fair bit, so I'm excited to see how 2009 goes for you…

  • http://www.unstructuredventures.com/uv Taylor Davidson

West Africa, of course. The rest, excluding Yellowstone) I have been to prior years, unsure if I'll be going any of those places this year…

And I would say it's stupid, not crazy :)

  • http://www.unstructuredventures.com/uv Taylor Davidson

    I don't think I could fit that many places into 2009 :)

  • http://peregrinebynature.com kari

    you've been to truckee?

  • http://www.unstructuredventures.com/uv Taylor Davidson

Truckee, CA? Driven through a couple times, wandered around a bit, never spent the night.

You are quite a traveler, Taylor. If you do happen to visit India again, do include Kashmir in your list – it's beautiful place. Other one to try are Agra (for Taj Mahal), Haridwar (for Ganges) and Jaipur (for it's magnificent palaces).

  • http://www.unstructuredventures.com/uv Taylor Davidson

I would love to go to Kashmir someday…

I've been to Agra and Jaipur, both beautiful in their own ways: http://www.taylordavidson.com/india/
