I received an email from Tiki and Ronde Barder urging me to give money to the University of Virginia. I am a UVA alum, and I am used to getting these pleas requests for donations.

Usually I do not read them, but this one I did, strictly because it “came” from Tiki and Ronde (great marketing, btw). One part surprised me:

“We’ve discovered a curious statistic: 81 percent of U.Va.’s undergraduate alumni report that they are “highly satisfied” with the education they received, but only 25 percent support the institution financially. “

Why is that curious or surprising? Is there a natural link between being satisfied with one’s education and donating after graduating? Is there an expectation for donating if one enjoyed school?

Note: I’m not knocking Tiki or Ronde. I went to UVA at the same time as them, and I always heard they were good people, and everything I have read gives me the impression they are talented both athletically and intellectually.
